The database requires IP addresses to be unique within each VRF (Virtual Routing and Forwarding) Group. This allows you to maintain subnets with overlapping IP ranges as long as they reside in different VRF groups.

During autodiscovery or imports, Freshservice assigns an IP to the first matching subnet it finds. Ensure your VRF groups are correctly assigned to prevent mapping errors in overlapping environments.

This article provides instructions on managing the IP address database, including how to associate IPs with multiple devices, perform bulk updates, and ensure data uniqueness across subnets.

Prerequisites

You need the following before managing IP address:

  • Access to the IT Asset Management module in your Freshservice instance.
  • Administrator privileges or specific permissions to create and edit IP addresses.
  • Add an IP address

    To manually add an IP address to your inventory, follow these steps:

    1. Go to IT Asset Management > Inventory > IP Addresses and click Add new.

    2. Enter the IP address in the IP Address field.

    3. Select a subnet from the Subnet dropdown menu. If you leave this field empty, the system calculates the subnet automatically based on the IP range.

    4. (Optional) In the Devices section, click \+ Add New to link the IP to an existing device.

    5. Enter any other relevant details and click Save.

    View IP addresses list page

    To view your IP inventory, go to IT Asset Management > Inventory > IP Addresses. On this page, you can perform the following actions:

  • Filter and Sort: Sort the list by any column or filter the records by type (IPv4/IPv6), availability, VRF group, tags, and other attributes.
  • Import: Bulk-import multiple IP address records at once. To do so, click the More Options (three vertical dots) icon and select Import. Download the sample sheet, populate it with your data, and upload the completed file.
  • Audit Logs: Click on any IP address and select the History (Audit Logs) tab to view a complete change history for that record.
  • Search: Use the search bar to enter full or partial values to find specific IP addresses quickly.
  • Perform bulk actions on IP address records

    On the IP addresses list page, you can perform bulk modifications by selecting multiple records. Once selected, you can access the following actions from the toolbar above the list or by clicking the More options (three vertical dots) icon:

    Mark selected IPs as availableChanges the status of selected IPs to "Available" (typically only applies to IPs with no device associations).

    Clear ALL fields & Mark selected IPs as availableRemoves all device associations and metadata, then resets the IP status to "Available."
    Relocate Selected IPsMoves the selected IPs to a different subnet, provided they fall within the new subnet's range.
    Add tags to selected itemsAppends a comma-separated list of tags to the selected IP records.
    Remove tags from selected itemsRemoves specific existing tags from the selected records.
    Check/Fix selected IPs Subnet assignmentValidates that the selected IPs are correctly mapped to their parent subnets and fixes discrepancies.
    Set Custom Field ValueAllows you to update a specific custom field for all selected records simultaneously.
