Tracking software at the device level is critical for maintaining license compliance, monitoring version consistency, and identifying unauthorized installations. While the Software Installations section provides a view of what is currently installed on a machine, it also links back to global software records, allowing you to see how a single device impacts your overall license seat count.
This article provides an overview of how to identify and manage the software components installed or running on a specific device.
Prerequisites
You need the following before managing software data:
View software installations
To view the software installed on a device, follow these steps:
1. Go to IT Asset Management > Inventory and select a device record.
2. In the Information tab, locate the Software Installations section.
3. A list of all software components, including their versions and installation dates, will appear.
Add software to a device
To associate software with a device, follow these steps:
1. On the device record page, click Edit in the upper-right corner.
2. In the Information tab, locate the Software Installations section and click \+ Add New.
3. Select the software name from the Software dropdown menu and enter the remaining details.
4. Click Update.
